17 Jul BURN WINS PRESTIGIOUS BLOOMBERG NEW ENERGY PIONEER AWARD
In 2013, BURN changed the playing field for modern biomass cookstoves when we introduced the Jikokoa, sub-Saharan Africa’s most economical and durable charcoal jiko. Five years later, Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) recognized us a pioneering clean energy game-changer.
Sponsored by BNEF (a Bloomberg Finance industry research organization focused on the evolving energy economy), the New Energy Pioneers awards identifies game-changing companies globally in the fields of clean energy, mobility, and digital technology and innovation. Winners are recognized for technology or business model innovation; evidence of substantive progress in the form of strong commercial partnerships, distribution channels and sales growth; and the potential to scale and have global impact.
BURN was selected from among 160 applicants from 47 countries, and we were the only company based in Africa to receive the honor this year. Our COO Boston Nyer (pictured), accepted the award during BNEF’s Future of Energy Summit in New York City.
“To win an award from an organization I admire so much is humbling,” says BURN CEO Peter Scott. “Recognition as a Bloomberg New Energy Pioneer helps us share BURN’s story with the world. It gives a boost to our vision of saving lives and forests in the developing world through improved cooking solutions.”
