After a career spanning three decades in private equity at Greyrock Capital, Stephen has pivoted to the Social Impact Space. He continues serving as a member of the Professional Faculty at the Haas School of Business, U.C. Berkeley which he joined in 1995. Stephen works with Acumen in an Advisory Role across both its early stage, high growth, patient capital Pioner Investment Group as well as Acumen Capital Partners covering the globe (Africa, Pakistan, Latin America, and the United States). He assists in fund raising, investment selection, portfolio construction and management.  His work for Acumen extends down to the portfolio level where he currently serves on the Boards of Evertable and Burn.

Stephen was one of the Founding Partners of Greyrock Capital Group.  During his time with the Fund, Greyrock managed almost a billion dollars in four Funds investing in junior capital in middle market companies with offices in Chicago, Wilton-CT and Berkeley.  He has a wide array of experience across many industries including manufacturing, food, building materials, industrial equipment, education and service businesses.  At Greyrock, he sat on the board of directors for Allen Technologies, Allstar Magnetics, Arrowhead Brass Products, Bentec Medical Products, Blast Deflectors, DecisionQuest, Dickenson Frozen Foods, Horizon Food Group, Mozzarella Fresca, MWA Intelligence, Ogle Beauty Schools, Paleteria La Michoacana, Paragon Products, Pinnacle Tile, Rennhack Marketing Systems and Solair Aviation.  

Early in his professional career, Stephen worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers, during which time he obtained his CPA. He has been awarded the Chiet Distinguished Teaching Award twice at Haas.  He currently serves on the Audit Committee for the University of California at Berkeley Foundation. He previously served extended terms as a University of California at Berkeley Foundation Trustee and the San Francisco Giants Community Fund Director. Mr. Etter received his undergraduate degree and MBA from the Haas School of Business.
